# From your documents to answers with sources.

Source: https://nordvec.com/how-it-works

This file is rendered from the same message catalogue as the page, at request time; the HTML page is the canonical document. Statements about the processing chain are bound to the claim record at https://nordvec.com/api/trust/claims, which says which of them the register currently supports.

How it works

Four steps from connecting a source to opening the passage an answer was written from.

### Step 1: Connect your tools

Connect Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Notion, Jira or another supported tool, or sync a folder with the desktop application. Nordvec indexes its files, mail and messages and keeps them in sync. What you connect stays private to you until you share a document.

**Connecting a tool: your sources feed one index, private to you until you share a document**

- Google Workspace
- Microsoft 365
- Slack, Notion, Jira
- **Nordvec**: Indexes and keeps in sync
- **One index of your sources**: Private to you until you share a document

### Step 1: Upload documents

Upload PDF or Word files, or paste text. Keep a document private, share it with a member or a group, or share it with everyone in the workspace. A file that arrives from several sources is stored once. Connecting and uploading are both optional: the chat works without them.

**Uploading documents: files and pasted text arrive, and a duplicate is stored once**

- PDF
- Word
- Pasted text
- **Nordvec**: Detects duplicates
- **One copy per document**: However many sources sent it

### Step 1: Ask in your own words

Ask the way you would ask a colleague. The answer cites the documents it was written from, and you can ask for it as a report you export to Word or Markdown, or print to PDF.

**Asking: one question is answered from your sources, with citations, and can become a report**

- Your question
- **Nordvec**: Searches your sources
- **Answer**: With citations
- **Report**: Export as a file

### Step 1: Verify every answer at the source

An answer written from your documents cites them. Open a citation to read the original document, email or message in the built-in viewer.

**Verifying: a citation opens the original in the built-in viewer**

- A citation
- **Nordvec**: Built-in viewer
- **The original**: Document, email or message

## Planned next

*What's next*

### Organisation connectors

Connect a source once for the whole workspace. Admins manage shared sources centrally, and every answer still respects each person's own access rights.

### Self-hosted models in the EU

Generation and embeddings served from infrastructure we operate in the EU, removing the remaining third-party model providers from the stack.

## Examples from daily work

*Use cases*

### Onboarding new employees

**Without Nordvec**: New employees spend weeks asking around about policies, processes, and how things work. Knowledge lives in scattered documents and word of mouth.

**With Nordvec**: New employees ask Nordvec about policies and processes, and each answer links to the document it came from.

### Customer support escalation

**Without Nordvec**: Support agents search Slack, email, and documents to find how a similar issue was resolved before. Customers wait.

**With Nordvec**: Support staff ask Nordvec how a similar issue was resolved, and get past tickets, internal documents and Slack threads as sources.

### Knowledge sharing across teams

**Without Nordvec**: Sales cannot find the latest pricing document, and marketing does not know what engineering has shipped.

**With Nordvec**: A team member asks a question and gets answers from every source shared with them.
